Mission
To
promote an understanding and awareness of the geology, hydrology and aquatic
ecology of the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer, and to provide factual
information about the science and technology of water quality protection and
conservation in an engaging and fun way.
Goals
Provide
a quality educational experience to approximately 100,000 walk-in visitors each
year, and another 1000 summer camp participants and 10,000 school children on
field trips.
Review
and update exhibits and programs to keep them fresh and exciting to reflect the
latest scientific understanding about the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer.
Offer
educational programs featuring local aquifer scientists, engineers, and planners
so that the Austin area community can stay involved as informed participants in
efforts to protect and conserve the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer.
Help
meet the City of Austin’s Barton Springs Salamander Habitat Conservation Plan
obligations, which includes educating the public and caring for a small number
of salamanders that will be on display within in the exhibit.
Provide
classroom facilities and house equipment for Austin Nature & Science Center
summer camps, school field trips, and other programs.
Encourage
the use of our facilities by community organizations.
Develop and offer environmental education and training programs.
