Who's Mr. Edwards?

The Edwards was originally named the "Edwards" by R.T. Hill and T.W. Vaughan (1899), Geology of the Edwards Plateau and Rio Grande Plain adjacent to Austin and San Antonio with reference to the occurrence of underground waters. U.S.G.S. Annual Report 18 pt. 2 p. 193-321. The term replaced the earlier terms of Caprina Limestone and the Barton Creek Limestone. The type locality is on Barton Creek near Austin. (From Sellards, Adkins and Plummer, 1966, The Geology of Texas, Vol. 1 Stratigraphy. The University of Texas Bulletin, No. 3232.)

This begs the question of "Who was Edwards". They also named a county after him. The county was named for Nacagdoches empressario, Hayden Edwards.
